Wharf Rat 2/18/71 - the first one played, sandwiched btwn Dark Star with a pretty jam. 9/22/93 With David Murray on Sax is insane. 7/24/73 Watkins Glen Soundcheck is sweet, even if just for the jam preceding it.

These are two of the best Garcia songs I've heard, A cool band was playing in the middle of my campus yesterday, msu, and they covered these two songs, sandwiching wharf rat between a song about fire then one about wet dreams...

I think the best wharf rat was 6/16/85 period

wharf rat--09-28-1972, 05-19-1974, 07-18-1976, 04-22-1978, 07-08-1978, 06-20-1983, 06-20-1987, 09-22-1993

loser--04-28-1971, 12-29-1977, 10-19-1981, 07-18-1982, 10-21-1983, 08-19-1989, 03-24-1990, 05-05-1990

^^ 04-22-1978 is maybe the best Wharf Rat (huge climactic jams)...09-28-1972 is perfect...06-20-1983 gets him with lightening...09-22-1993 has a sax payer...

as far as Loser, 03-24-1990 is perfect and they are totally dialed in...Garcia is on fire in the middle jam...07-18-1982 has a searing Garcia solo and it is well played in that tight 82' style...all versions listed have great vocals and harmonies

Amazing Wharf Rat with a middle "irish type" jam I have never heard before/since. Actually entire second set is off the charts) --
Binghampton, NY - 11.6.77.

I'll leave Wharf Rat to the "other ones" ;-) but PLEASE listen to me and go IMMEDIATELY to

Ventura Cty. Fairgrounds 7-22-84 for the BEST version of LOSER you will ever hear. What Jerry does in the growl of his guitar AND voice on this version will make you want to jumpo out of your skin.

Enjoy.
